How to Prepare My Child for an Ivy League Education
- 1). Monitor your child's homework and studying. Do not allow him to go out with his friends on school nights until he finishes his homework. Always check his homework to ensure he did it correctly. If he has an exam the next day, require him to stay home the whole night to study. It is best to be strict with him before he goes to college to make him disciplined. In order to graduate from an Ivy League University, he must study hard and choose academics over his social life.
- 2). Encourage your child to participate in extracurricular activities after school. Joining a foreign language club, debate team or yearbook club can expand her mind and develop her leadership skills. A list of extracurricular activities on her resume will show she is motivated to succeed.
- 3). Help your child prepare for the SAT or ACT. Since he needs to shoot for a score over 700 on the SAT or over 32 on the ACT, he must be ready. Encourage him to purchase an SAT or ACT preparation book, take a pre-test or hire a tutor.
- 4). Save money. Ivy League schools are some of the most costly schools in the United States. For example, its costs $38,416 to attend Harvard University for a full year. Start a college fund for your child when she is born. Ask family members to contribute to her college fund on Christmas and on her birthday.
