The Salary of a Fourth-Year Investment Banking Analyst

    Becoming a Financial Analyst

    • Financial analysts have at minimum a bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, mathematics, accounting, statistics, economics, or a related field. In addition, most analysts obtain a master's of business administration (MBA), which gives them special training in how to analyze financial instruments and maximize investment yields for companies or clients.

    Financial Analyst Salaries

    • According to the Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS), financial analysts earned a median wage of $74,350, according to a survey conducted on May 2010. The salary range of financial analysts is large, with the lowest-paid earning $44,490 and the highest earning $141,700 per year.

    Fourth-Year Financial Analyst Salaries

    • As in most professions, financial analysts can expect to see their salaries increase as they gain experience in their field. According to a survey conducted in 2008 by the UK Consultancy Firm Michael Page Financial Services Ltd., investment analysts with five to eight years' experience earned a base annual salary between $103,993 and $159,990.

    Bonuses and Other Perks

    • This base salary does not include the many bonuses and perks that financial analysts earn. Bonuses for financial analysts can vary greatly from bank to bank, whereas banking analysts who work for rating agencies and government institutions will typically receive less or no bonuses, although they will still receive other benefits such as medical insurance and access to pension plans.
