3 Ways to Stay Safe in Public Places

As you go about your day, you visit sometimes several places.
There's the grocery shopping, or stopping for a bite to eat.
There is the drive to and from work and the walk from your car to the office.
Some people go to school and walk the halls of their campus.
Clearly, the options for crime to occur abound.
Because of this, it is essential to learn some tips on how to stay safe in public places.
Some people engage in martial arts training to give themselves some confidence that if they ever encountered danger, they have a fighting chance.
This is a great idea.
Martial arts training does more than teach you moves that you may be able to utilize as self defense; the training also improves your mental and physical health.
Another way to learn to defend yourself is to practice moves demonstrated on a self defense DVD.
For people who lead very busy lives, the option of a self defense DVD is the only way they will be able to make any strides towards personal safety.
This is alright; as long as you're learning and practicing.
No self defense method is complete without practice and repetition.
But self defense moves and techniques aren't the only way to stay safer in public places.
Here are some tips to help you gain awareness of how to improve your personal safety as you travel through life.
•Keep your money to yourself.
When you go out for lunch or to your favorite coffee shop, do not take your money out of your wallet to count it before paying.
All it takes is for a criminal to see the money you have to be tempted to target you.
Instead of counting out cash, pay with a card or pull out only the bills you need to pay for your order.
•Walk with purpose.
When you are walking on the streets or through a parking lot, you have someplace to go, right? Well it should look that way.
When you walk with purpose, you put your phone in your pocket or purse and you look towards your destination.
Your eyes are up and not pointed to the ground in front of you.
You are looking around at the people around you and making eye contact to show how confident you are.
•Carry your keys in your pocket or in your hand as you approach and leave your car.
Keys can make for a great weapon should you be approached aggressively.
You may find this a silly piece of advice that has been passed down from the last generation; but it has been passed down for one reason; it works! The reality of life is that crimes do occur.
Turn on the news or open the daily paper and you will see that crimes even happen in your town.
They don't only happen to "other people"; they can happen to you.
When you learn how to stay safe in public, you decrease your chances of becoming a victim.
