Parrot Psychology

Why do birds act the way they do? To understand this you have to understand how a bird think. For instance, the reason parrots are often very loud at times is because it's simply their method of talking to each other. And since they don't have other birds to talk to they talk to us.....loudly at times.

But here's another thing to consider. If your parrot doesn't have the proper amount of food and water he may also scream a lot. These are the basic needs of every animal, not just birds. So you must make sure you get this right. Besides, it's a must if you want to set the right stage for a smooth training process.

Bird Training Methods

Repetitious training is a common method of training. It's the best way to start. But you must first have a bird that is not afraid of you so make sure you spend time everyday with him and get him to the point to where his is not afraid of you. So how do you do this?

A fearful bird is a dangerous bird so start slow. Approach slowly and back off when needed. Stand still and don't move, then back off slowly. Your parrot needs to understand that you're not there to hurt him. Step one is complete. But you must do this over and over until your bird understands. He will start to relax eventually and that's when you move on to the next phase.

Soon you will open the cage and progress to training your bird how to step up onto your hand. And then of course onto advanced training later. Everybody starts at the beginning so the sooner you get started the better. So enough you'll be teaching him bird tricks.

Remember.By training your bird you will accomplish several things.

  • Trust

  • Dominance

  • Obedience

  • Affection
