Advantages & Disadvantages of Ebooks

    Speed

    • Ebooks are instant-gratification reading material. You make payment and immediately start reading the book. Traditional physical books usually need to be ordered or found in a store, then brought home.

    Subject

    • Ebooks cover many specialized topics that are not necessarily seen in books. They can also give samples of books and access to single articles. With an ebook, the reader can focus on the precise information he is looking for.

    Storage

    • Ebooks do not take up much space. With the continued decrease in price of electronic storage devices, storage should not be an issue. If said storage devices fail, however, the ebook is lost.

    Reading

    • It can be harder to read material on a computer screen. Many still prefer to read physical books as, even with ebook readers, it is harder to curl up in bed with an ebook.

    Readers

    • Ebook readers often use proprietary formats, meaning you typically can't transfer a book from one reader to another. They may break and lose their texts, and they require power to work. They are also currently expensive ($259 for Amazon's latest global-wireless Kindle).
