How to Make a Solar Panel Out of Pop Cans
- 1). Drill a hole in the bottom of 45 pop cans. Drill holes in the side near the bottom of the remaining five pop cans. Make five stacks of 10 pop cans. Use the adhesive caulk to glue nine pop cans with holes in the bottom onto one pop can with holes in the sides. Allow to dry.
- 2). Nail the 2x4's together to form a box with inside dimensions of 50 by 12.5 inches. Cut a piece of plywood to fit the back of the box. Cut the Plexiglas to the same dimensions as the plywood.
- 3). Paint the stacks of cans with dark-colored paint. Allow to dry. Paint the inside of the box with dark-colored paint.
- 4). Drill a hole the size of the tubing in the top and bottom of the box. Use the adhesive caulk to glue the pop cans into the box. The pop cans with the holes on the sides should be at the bottom end of the box.
- 5). Put the tubing in each hole and glue in place with the adhesive caulk. Put adhesive caulk around the edge of the Plexiglas and place on the front of the box to form a cover.
- 6). Determine at what angle you will place your solar panel. Drill two small holes in the outside wall of the room you want to warm. One hole should be down low and the other at the top height of the box. Place the open end of the tubing through the holes and use the adhesive caulk to seal them in place.
