How to Get a Landscape Design Published

    • 1). Groom your landscape into tip-top shape. Even a well-executed design won't look as impressive if the grass is overgrown or weeds have infiltrated the flower bed.

    • 2). Hire a professional photographer to capture your landscape design. Ideally, your landscape should be photographed at the height of the season, depending on your climate and the types of plants your design features. Ask the photographer to capture the landscape in various lighting conditions, from soft early morning light to dusk, especially if you've installed a garden lighting system.

    • 3). Choose the publications in which you'd like to see your landscape design featured. Your approach may be different depending on whether these publications are books on landscape design, magazines on gardening or the home and garden section of your local newspaper. Compile a short list of publications that include projects similar to yours after carefully studying their style as well as their regular columns to understand where your project would fit best.

    • 4). Locate a publication's submission guidelines. Sometimes they are outlined within the publication itself or on their website, although you may have to contact an editor. Typically, publications ask for photographs of the landscape design, background on the owners and the location, as well as details about the layout and types of plantings. Some publishers request this information by mail, while others accept email. Follow the guidelines perfectly to avoid having your design tossed into the reject pile. It may take several weeks before you hear back from an editor as to whether or not your project will be published.
