How Do I Extend My L2 Visa?

    • 1). Download, complete, and then print out Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Non-immigrant Status. You can complete the form by typing directly into it. See the resources section to download the form.

    • 2). Pay the Form I-539 processing fee by writing a check or getting a money order payable to "U.S. Department of Homeland Security." As of 2010, the fee in U.S. dollars is $300.

    • 3). Make certified true copies of your supporting documents. Some of these should include your spouse's L-1 visa and any documents used in obtaining his/her L-1 visa status, and your current L-2 visa and any additional documents you may have used in your original L-2 visa application.

    • 4). Mail your completed Form I-539, fee, and supporting documents to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Service Center that has jurisdiction over your state of residence. The information for your specific center can be found on the USCIS website.
