Working on an Oil Rig

Working on an Oil Rig

That's right.  I'm on an oil rig now.  I used to do a number of different jobs here and there, working seasonally every year and going on unemployment for the winters.  Now I'm working out on the rigs for better pay.  I can do most things but I don't have the papers from college to prove it.  On the rig, your ability is what matters.  I don't have to do anything but work hard.

I'm not going to lie to you, it's hard work.  Damn hard work.  The hours can be long but that's what you go there for.  You go to work and make money.  Lots of it.  There's overtime for those that want it and you can work away all the long hours easily.  It can be cold and it can be wet but the views are amazing.  You can save up money for the time you are off and party like a rock star or save up and buy a house in a few short years (or less).  Everyone I know has a new car or truck.  They work for it but it is all paid for.

Sounds pretty bad, eh?  Let's talk about the good parts.  I work two weeks on and two weeks off.  They fly me where ever I want to go for the two weeks off (within reason).  The food is incredible.  You can eat as much as you want and it is always good and hot.  Want bacon and eggs for breakfast, you got it.  Want a burger and fries for lunch, you got it.  Want a steak and potato for dinner, you got it.  My room is clean, I have high speed internet, and they give me work clothing to wear (Carhartt for me right now).  I work for a major oil company and there are always perks that come along if you pay attention to the company emails.

The industry needs  more people that aren't afraid of hard work.  The difference … here you get paid well to work hard.  Fair pay for a fair day's work.  Don't be afraid to try it out.  There are lots of jobs and with all the old guys retiring, there are lots of spots opening up for young men (and women) to fill.  Work hard, play hard.  Life is good.

I got my start through Rigworker - http://bit.ly/Rigjob.  Good people, good jobs.
