Teaching Yourself Guitar - Some Suggestions

The wish to learn to play the guitar is something that can happen, if you have watched someone play and enjoyed it.
The thought may soon enter your mind about teaching yourself guitar, and make you impatient to start.
Once you have decided, then you have to decide how you need to go about doing it.
Unless you are a musician yourself, learning just by listening to music is tough.
Talented musicians, who do play other instruments, and in particular stringed instruments, may be able to pick up playing the guitar by listening to others playing and trying out the tunes themselves.
They are able to do this, because they know the basic notes to play, and its only adapting to this particular instrument that is required.
For the majority of us, there is need to learn it in a proper manner.
Here the first choice would be the use of music books.
Enough music books are available which will guide you through the basic lessons, and take you onto playing simple well known songs.
You can then begin to master the more complex ones.
The alternative would be the use of videos.
This more modern method has become increasingly popular as there are a large range of DVD's to choose from.
Good ones will start with the basic notes, the method of strumming and take you through playing, before leading onto more difficult things.
The advantage of learning from a video is that you can watch and learn.
This way the learning process is made easier, and is probably also faster than a book.
A good video should be able to point out to you where you may make basic mistakes, and show you how to correct them.
This single factor can help you learn faster as it is equivalent to having a personal tutor.
Probably the biggest advantage in teaching yourself guitar is that you don't need to go out and attend classes.
You can learn it in the comfort of your house, and more importantly practice at your convenience whenever you find time.
So what are you waiting for? Get started and get going.
