The Skinny on Success by Jim Randel
"The Skinny on Success" by Jim Randel is one of "The Skinny On" series which is promoted as a series of books for really busy people.
Through stick figures, quotes, and shorter passages, Randel has condensed and distilled a large amount of "Success" literature into this one simple to read volume.
Randel points out at the beginning that while the design is minimalist, the book takes the message very seriously.
I agree with this statement.
This book contains very solid advice on success.
It's not a "quick" guide for sure, since the message that rings true throughout the text is that success takes hard work and persistence.
Part of the book involves stick person Jim Randel sharing success secrets with stick people Billy and Beth.
Billy wants a career as a stand-up comic, but does not realize the work that it will take.
Beth wants to enter politics, but is a bit hesitant due to fear of public speaking and a failed first attempt.
Randel shares with them some "seeds of success" so to speak.
The advice is solid and applies to everyone.
The Skinny books are well researched and Randel shares stories of many successful people.
If you have read books on the topic, many of these will be familiar.
Most of us have heard about the trials and triumphs of Wilma Rudolph, Roger Banister, and Abraham Lincoln.
However, that does not mean it isn't motivating to hear again.
There are plenty of other examples of people overcoming difficulties to succeed that are not as well known, including those of the author.
The book concludes with ten simple rules of success.
Simple to write anyway.
To actually implement the rules is a bit tougher, but well worth it.
These rules include, "Successful people do everything they can to maximize the probability of their success" and ways to do just that, "successful people take action," and "successful people learn to combat the fear of failure.
" Throughout the entire book there are quotes that motivate and inspire.
The four page bibliography provides ample titles for further reading.
I like "The Skinny On" series, and found this to be a very good book on success.
If you are needing a little motivation, and an encouraging word to work hard and never give up, this is a great little book for just that.
There's nothing necessarily new or earth shattering here, just some solid advice on achieving success distilled from many other sources.
It's a quick read, and because of the motivation factor, I recommend it highly to anyone who needs, or wants, a little boost in the right direction.
Read and achieve!
