How to Change the Shaft Seal on a Pool Pump
- 1). Disable all power to the pump motor at the breaker. Unplug the pump's power plug from the outlets.
- 2). Unscrew the screws holding the motor to the wet end of the pump with a screwdriver. Pull the pump sections away from each other.
- 3). Fasten the end of a wrench on the cylindrical shaft on the motor end. Turn the impeller disk to the left to remove it from the shaft threads. Pull the impeller disk off the shaft completely.
- 4). Free the seal located on the back of the motor shaft with a screwdriver and pull the seal off the shaft. Thread a replacement seal onto the shaft and slide it to the end of the shaft.
- 5). Fasten the end of a wrench to the shaft and screw the impeller disk on the shaft. Twist the shaft until the impeller disk sits fully on the threads.
- 6). Bring the motor and wet end of the pump together and secure them with the screws and screwdriver. Attach the pump plug to the power outlet.
