- 1). Clip the top layer of your hair up so you can work on the bottom layer first.
- 2). Create curls by using a small-barreled curling iron to curl small sections of your hair, one at a time.
- 3). Take out the clip and curl every piece of the top layer of hair with the iron. An '80s perm was made up of lots of tight, fluffy curls that looked like little ringlets.
- 4). Curl your bangs, creating the same small ringlet-style curls.
- 5). Fluff the curls with your fingers to loosen them up a little and make them look a little frizzy. Finish the curls with some hairspray so they will stay tight.
- 6). Add a barrette to each side of your head, pulling the sides away from your face. Fluff the top up so it looks big. If you have bangs, this will be simple. If not, fake it by teasing the hair up top a little with a fine-toothed comb so the volume is big and noticeable.
