How to Service Mobility Scooters

    • 1). Regularly maintain the device. Use a clean cloth to remove debris from the unit's driving axles. Examine plugs and remove buildup from the motor connector, power seat connector and battery connector.

    • 2). Preserve the life of the battery and charger. Only charge the unit indoors; rain can damage the battery. Never leave the charger plugged into the charger port if you're not using the charger, warns Shoprider, a manufacturer of mobility scooters.

    • 3). Replace a battery that won't hold a charge. One year is the average life span of a battery, notes Pride Mobility.

    • 4). Contact a qualified technician to service an inoperable device. If damage affects the safety of the scooter, contact the manufacturer of the device for consultation.
