How to Improve the Mileage of a Chevy Silverado

    • 1). Turn the engine off if you are not in traffic and expect to wait for at least 30 seconds before moving again. Unnecessary idling wastes gas. Drive at times other than rush hour if possible.

    • 2). Turn off the air conditioning and open a window when practical. Using air conditioning reduces fuel economy.

    • 3). Slow down. A vehicle loses about 1 percent in fuel economy for each mile per hour it is traveling faster than 55 mph. For example, if you get 30 miles per gallon at 55 mph, you will get only 28.5 miles per gallon at 60 mph.

    • 4). Keep the engine maintained. Clean air filters, belts that fit properly and the right type of oil help the engine run more efficiently, which improves gas mileage. Have your Silverado serviced by a mechanic regularly unless you feel comfortable doing it yourself.
