Exercise at Home Made Easy

Home exercise is a great option for those who don't have time or inclination to go to a gym.
There are many, many ways to exercise at home, and it is probably good to familiarize yourself with them even if you do belong to a gym seeing as your home is where you spend most of your life, and an active life must begin at home.
Here are some simple things you can do to get yourself motivated to start working out regularly.
Free-weights.
Starting out with relatively light dumbbells, do exercises that alternately push away (abduct) and pull in (adduct) your limbs.
For instance, you may abduct your arm muscles by doing overhead presses and subsequently adduct your arms by doing bicep curls.
By holding the weights on your shoulders and performing squats and lunges, you can achieve the same sorts of motion with your legs.
Core exercises.
Core exercises don't have to be complicated.
A simple regimen of crunches, twists and Pilates-like leg lifts can work almost your entire abdominal area, giving you strength and good posture.
Cardio.
Cardiovascular workouts are probably the easiest type of exercise to do at home.
There are many options and they don't require much - if any - equipment.
You can do simple calisthenics such as jumping jacks, running in place, "mountain climbers" or squat-thrusts quite easily.
By adding a minimal amount of equipment, you can also jump rope or use a step for extra resistance.
There are any number of exercise videos and DVDs available that make use of these techniques and more.
You can find everything from chair aerobics to martial-arts inspired kicking and punching.
There are workout videos for yoga and walking for those who prefer something lighter.
The most important thing to remember when working out at home is to find something you like and be consistent with it.
