Breast Lift, What"s it All About?
Breast lift surgery or Mastopexy as it is known in the medical world, refers to types of elective, voluntary, surgical procedures, that lift and reshape the bust, either individually or both breasts.
The surgery usually involves moving the nipples and surrounding area, removing excess skin and tightening up the rest of the skin to lift the cleavage upwards.
Mastopexy surgery can be performed as a standalone operation, sometimes the procedure involves adding of implants to give added lift when necessary, when this is the case the surgery is called a Breast Augmentation.
It must be noted that the effects of a lift are only temporary, augmentation is more permanent.
After a breast lift, the natural aging process continues and over time the lifted skin and tissue is subject to aging and gravity, and the cleavage will start to sag again.
There are two types of breast lifts currently available:
The draw back to this procedure over a full lift is that the change and lift is not as pronounced.
So it's a trade off really, less scarring but also less lift.
Not that the full breast lift leaves a lot scars.
There are many different types of the modified lift, the most common is the Benelli lift 9 also known as the concentric mastopexy or the donut lift), this involves the removal of a circular piece of tissue from around the nipple area, with an emphasis on the top part of the circle, thus providing a lift to the breast when all sewed back up.
The full lift, requires a cut to the underside of the boob, along the crease line and a cut from here to the nipple area and around the nipple itself, often referred to as the inverted T cut.
From this cut the surgeon can remove excess skin and this will ensure a very successful operation and breast lift.
Due to the nature of the incisions there will be scarring around the nipple and under the breast along the incisions lines.
It is vital that if you are considering a lift, full or modified that you choose a fully qualified surgeon, most countries have a Cosmetic Surgeon certified list, please ensure you check this out.
