Finding the Best Massage Therapy Tables

Most if not all massage therapists use tables for their practice. These tables are constructed basically the same but there are some important characteristics to consider when you are deciding on which one to purchase. The same types of tables are often used by chiropractors and physical therapists; the minor details that vary in appearance and function are not excessively different.

The first quality of a massage table is that it needs to be able to be functional, that is it can be easily adjusted to allow for different sizes of clients you will be working on. It is a good idea to check your adjustment of the table frequently and make certain the legs are snug and tighten properly, the last thing you need is to have a table let go in middle of an hour massage.

Massage tables usually have a supporting cable system that helps to keep the tension even on all sides of the table. These cables too, need to be checked every so often. The covering of the table can be in any color you wish, but make certain it is vinyl as this cleans the best and does not wear out very quickly. The basic massage table has an adjustable headrest that can be removed and placed at either end of the table to facilitate whatever space you are currently working in.

The massage therapy tables need to be portable, this is done by enabling them to be folded in half and latched together then carried by handles or for better handling use a case with wheels to move the table where you need to go. A massage therapist with a folding table can either set it up in an office or take it to homes where he or she is currently working on clients. Using portable massage tables give massage therapists a greater amount of mobility especially if they are self-employed. Choose a massage table that will be easy to work with and become familiar with setting it up and adjusting it in a few minutes, double-checking the alignment of all four legs to make certain the table is level.

Many different accessories can be bought for massage therapy tables, this is a decision based on the type of practice and clients you work on. If you work on pregnant women, you need a table that facilitates this; if you are working on people who are larger, you need a massage table that is wider than usual. Some tables have places where a client can rest his or her arms when lying on their stomach and others have extenders that let a taller person still be able to be comfortable. Most of the massage tables offer warranties; these vary according to the manufacturer, so check the information carefully when you purchase a massage table for your practice.
