In the last two years people are just obsessed with to questions: Is the world going to end in 2012? And when is the world supposed to end in 2012? This happen because of the Mayan calendar that predicts the end of all time by the end of year 2012.
The Aztecs had a good reason do believe that such a disaster will happen on that day because of two reasons. The first one is that all the stars in the sky will be in one line with the Milky Way. This astronomical phenomena happens only once if hundreds of thousand years. So they assumed that something interesting will happen because of it and because it was also associated with the ancient gods who are controlling the universe. The second reason is the Aztec calendar which is ending on that specific day. Because they thought that the world going to end in 2012 they didn't continue to write the calendar which is a useless task if everyone will be dead on the next morning.
