Often perceived as a romantic destination for newlyweds, Hawaii is also a popular travel spot for the whole family. Some of the largest resorts on the Hawaiian islands are beginning to cater specifically to families, even offering hours of scheduled and supervised activities for young children. - Located on The Big Island, Kona Village Resort offers custom-designed programs to entertain children. For children ages 6 to 12, activities include coconut painting, net throwing and fishing contests. Activities for teens include sailing, baseball and volleyball. Adults may enjoy stargazing, tennis, golf or a massage at the health spa. Kona Village Resort is also one of the only all-inclusive resorts in Hawaii. Room amenities include daily housekeeping services, private whirlpool tubs and adult-size bathrobes and slippers. As of June 2010, two-room units started at $925 per night, and additional costs for children ranged from $50 to $240 depending on their ages.

Kids will enjoy the multi-level Wailea Canyon Activity Pool, a water park complete with caves, waterfalls and slides. The resort also features Camp Grande, a mini-resort for kids 5 to 12 years old. Activities in Camp Grande include movies, video games, crafts and an indoor play area with Lego blocks and board games. For adults, the Spa Grande offers massages and other typical spa fare. Rooms at the Grand Wailea vary, but they typically include a private balcony, unobstructed views and more than 600 square feet of space. As of June 2010, double rooms that included two queen-size beds started at $605 per night plus a $20 daily resort fee. Children younger than 17 were no extra charge.

The Rainbow Express is a year-round program for children ages 5 to 12 featuring educational activities for $60 per half-day or $90 for a full day, including excursions and lunch. Activities include storytelling, games and arts and crafts. For adults or teens, the 22-acre resort features 22 restaurants, five pools and activities such as luaus, fashion shows and live music. Room amenities vary but usually include balconies, refrigerators, and televisions featuring on-demand movies, music and video games. As of June 2010, rates started at $209 per night for a garden-view room.

It has a collection of swimming pools, both freshwater and saltwater, that feature slides, waterfalls and secret lagoons. This oceanfront Hyatt also offers the Camp Hyatt program for kids ages 3 through 12, which costs $45 for a half-day and up to $70 for a full day of supervised activities. Activities in the Camp Hyatt program include hula lessons and shell-bracelet making. Rock Hyatt is an activity room for teens that includes video games. Adults may enjoy activities such as tennis, golf wood carving or lei making. Room amenities include private balconies with garden or ocean views, stereos with iPod docks, marble baths, 36-inch flat-screen TVs and 24-hour room service.
