How to Find out When a House Was Built in Florida
- 1). Visit the county property appraiser's office online or in person if the property appraiser doesn't offer property records on a website. If you have to visit the property appraiser's office in person and the office does not have public computers to do your search, be prepared to give the clerk one or more of the following pieces of information: street address of the house, owner's name or folio number. The clerk will check the record and tell you the year that the house was built.
- 2). Search the property appraiser's database online or on a public computer at the appraiser's office by entering the owner's name or the street address of the property into the real estate search boxes. Depending on the county, the search screen could be on the first page or you might have to click a link labeled "Search Real Estate," "Record Search" or something similar. When you search the database by the owner's name, more than one property will come up if the owner owns more than one property. The name and the address show up on the results page. Click the name with the proper address to bring up the records for a specific piece of property.
- 3). Look for the building characteristics on the page to see the year the house was built. Other information available on the page includes the type of structure, which is also useful for insurance purposes.
