How to Edit a Scanned PDF Document in Word

    • 1). Convert your PDF document to the Word document file format using a desktop conversion program or an online service. Follow the instructions for your program or service. Make sure that you name the output file in such a way that you can easily find it when it is saved.

    • 2). Open Microsoft Word and then the file you just converted and make your edits. You will be able to change text, layout, tables and images. Note that some PDF documents that use tables will have them embedded as images. When the PDF is converted to a Word format, the tables will remain as images and you will not be able to edit them as a normal table format. Edit the image itself or create a new table in Word with the information.

    • 3). Save your file as a Word document and convert it back to the PDF format. Later versions of Word (such as those found in Vista Office packs) have an option to "Save As PDF" under the File choice on the tool bar. Earlier versions of Word cannot save a file as a PDF. Use a desktop conversion program or online service to convert your file from a DOC to a PDF.
