How to Remove Etching From Dishes & Silverware

    • 1). Fill a bowl with 2 cups of vinegar. Place the bowl of vinegar on the bottom tray of the dishwasher before running a load of dishes. Let the vinegar run through the entire cycle to balance out the minerals in the water.

    • 2). Use a liquid or gel detergent. Low-quality grain detergent can cause etching by abrasion. Liquid and gel detergents are smoother.

    • 3). Hand-wash your dishes with a non-abrasive dish rag. The dishwasher uses high water pressure to remove the food from your dishes, which promotes etching. Hand washing allows you to remove the food in a less abrasive manner.
