Skin Types and Skin Care
We are all crazy for buying costly cosmetics from top brands.
The truth is that all those colorful, designed cosmetic rappers or boxes are suitable in showcase only.
They are not always suitable for our skin.
We need only few of them.
So, better we know our skin types and buy only those products that suit our skin type, rather than cursing those brands after experiencing some adverse effect.
A person with normal skin is the luckiest one.
This skin type is very even and fine textured with small pores that are clear and visible.
Appearance is flawless and this skin needs gentle care as it has an optimum balance of oil and moisture.
Dry skin is prone to wrinkles and patches.
It easily loses its moisture and the sebaceous glands also lack in sebum production to keep it moist.
It needs the most careful treatment, especially in cold weather.
Skin aging also comes earlier than other skin types.
Good moisturizer in the day and a good cream at night should be used daily.
Oily skin is quite greasy in appearance.
Over secretion of sebum makes it oily and thus it is more likely to attract dust from the environment.
It needs a good cleanser.
Next is a combination skin type.
As we can guess, it has combination of both oily and dry skin.
We need to identify which part of the skin is oily and which is dry and treat them accordingly.
There are certain skin care products available particularly for combination skin.
Sensitive skin is sensitive to climate change, high or low temperature, some kinds of cosmetics, perfume and soaps.
It is better to avoid those things that irritate the skin or cause allergies.
Cleansing should be the first step with any skin care routine.
Oily skin needs cleansing 4-5 times a day, normal skin needs 2-3 times a day and dry skin should be cleansed whenever required.
Cleansing products are basically mixtures of oil, wax and water and they can be found in the form of creams, gels, liquids and lotions.
Choose the one that suits your skin type.
A cotton pad dipped in fresh milk is a very effective cleanser.
An upward and outward movement should be followed while applying cleanser on the face.
Do not stretch, drag or pull the skin.
After applying you should leave it for 2-3 minutes so it can soak up extra dirt and make-up.
Then remove it with cotton wool or tissue paper with the same movement and finally rinse with water.
Toning also comes after cleansing.
Toner with alcohol content can be used for oily skin and alcohol free toner is for dry, sensitive or combination skin.
There should also be a combination of toner and astringent.
Finally, moisturizing helps hold the moisture content of the skin at an optimum level.
Dry skin can not survive without moisturizer.
Oil free moisturizers can be used for oily skin and there is also a water based moisturizer available for a normal skin type.
