    User Web Server Tools

    Third Party Services

    • There are numerous third-party services, including Tweetake, TweetDumpr, Tweetscan, BackupMyTweets and TweetBackup. Some, such as Tweetake, are for personal archiving only, as they don't allow reimporting posts back to Twitter. Tweetscan has the added advantage of downloading user message archives to CSV files.

    Hashtags

    Plugins

Twitter Tools can send tweets to the user's blog for archiving, but can also send updates about the blog to Twitter. Twinbox sends tweets and updates to the user's Outlook inbox, enabling searching, archiving and grouping of posts.

    Calendar Tools

    • Services such as Twistory can archive tweets into the user's calendar application. The service works with iCal, Google Calendar, Outlook, Thunderbird and others that have a similar layout. The service imports tweets at the moment of posting, and can import back to the user's first tweet.

    Lifestream

    • Applications utilizing lifestreaming include SweetCron, AmpliFeeder and Storytlr, hosted on the user's server. AmpliFeeder can also create XML files for social network streams data. Storytlr has the added feature of allowing users to add their own content to the service.

    RSS

    • RSS feeds are one of the easiest ways to back up tweet archives. The user can add the RSS feed to his RSS reader and use the search to look for items by keywords or phrases. Readers, such as Google Reader, allow users to retrieve items as far back as the first in the subscription.

    Selective Archiving

    • Evernote allows users to send messages and DMs to the application for permanent archiving. The user must insert "@myEN" into the body of a tweet to store the selected tweets.
