How Chicagoans Protect Their Home Security
Chicago is one of the most fascinating, exciting cities in the world. It is the third biggest city in the United States, and both the population and cultural center of the Midwest. It has natural beauty in the form of Lake Michigan, and architectural beauty in the form of its many skyscrapers and other landmarks like the Water Tower and Tribune Tower and the work of famous architects like Frank Lloyd Wright. It is often used in movie sets for its iconic elevated trains. It is great food from just about every tradition Italian food in the form of its deep dish pizza and regional dishes like Chicken vesuvio; an extensive Greek Town; soul food from its vast African-American population; and more taquerias than you could shake a stick at from its every growing Mexican population. All said, Chicago is an incredible city, one that delights tourists of all ages.
But there is a difference between visiting a city for a couple of days to enjoy its sites and actually living there. Unfortunately, Chicago also suffers from a high crime rate, causing its relatives to spend a considerable amount of time fretting over their home security. There is considerable drug and gang activity in Chicago, especially in the citys south and west sides, and some of the ensuing violence spills over into more affluent neighborhoods and even suburbs. Break-ins and home robberies are more common than some would like, so it is important to remain vigilant about ones home security.
So how do Chicagoans protect their home security when faced with so many obstacles? The first step is to remember that it does no good to feel anxious and become paranoid. While violence and crime are certainly a reality and things that one should protect ones family from, there are a few important things to keep in mind. First of all, much of the violence in Chicago is self-contained. There are certain neighborhoods in which people are much more likely to be attacked or targeted or innocent victims of crimes, and if you live in one of these neighborhoods you already know. That does not make the situation any better for the people who suffer violence on the streets every day, but it does make it so that you need not worry that your house is constantly under attack at every moment of every day and night. That said, the smart thing to do here is not to become completely arrogant and assume that it could never happen to you. That is just plain nave. Instead, you want to strike a middle ground here, not tending towards either extreme. You would to find the happy medium where you are protecting your home security without being excessive. In this vain, a few simple steps you could take would include things like installing a good home security system, making sure to lock your doors when you leave the house, and keeping first-floor windows closed at night. This and a little neighborhood vigilance will do wonders.
