Rain Effect in Photoshop

    Layer

    • A new transparent layer must be created over the image so the rain effect can be laid on top. This is done by clicking "New layer" on the layer panel.

    Noise

    • Use the "Add noise" filter, which is found under the "Filter" drop-down menu. This noise will create the rain effect.

    Motion Blur

    • The "Motion blur" filter transforms the noise into line lines that look like rain. The angle of the rain can be adjusted by altering the number in the angle box.

    Levels

    • The contrast between the different parts of the motion-blurred noise can be reduced by adjusting the levels setting. Keep adjusting it until there is mostly black with a few lines of white.

    Magic Wand

    • Remove the black by clicking it with a magic wand and pressing "Delete." This reveals most of the picture underneath with the new rain effect on top of the image.
