Bat Houses - Organic Pest Control Through Using Bat Houses

Are you aware that the bat is the only mammal in this world that can fly like a bird? We live in a world with over 5400 mammalian species and yet only the bat is a flying mammal.
Bats are a mysterious animal that are commonly associated with vampires.
Because they have sensitivity to light, they will roost in the day and only come out at night.
Since they are nocturnal, many people have a negative outlook toward them, which we need to spend time changing.
In reality, about 70% are insectivores and are very effective at pest control for farmers.
Farmers have the opportunity to use these wonderful mammals instead of insecticides for controlling pests.
Around 800-1000 mosquitoes can be eaten in a single night by one bat.
It's a great organic solution to a farmer's insect problem.
Studies have shown that pests will be almost negligible in fields that have bats living close by.
While most bats feed on insects there are others that live on fruit and nectar and are important for pollination and transfer of seeds.
Their movement technique is different, because instead of eyes they use their ears for direction.
The ultrasonic sounds are produced from their mouth and when it comes back from reflecting on any obstructions, they catch that echo, and change their direction to avoid the obstruction.
They also use this echolocation technique to catch insects as well.
So with their valuable effort, they are controlling the pests, helping with pollination and maintaining zoological variations.
But their habitats are now in danger.
As a result their numbers are now decreasing.
If we fail to do something to help them, then soon this wonderful creature may become critically endangered.
Their reproduction rate is low.
And the average litter size is 1 to 3.
But usually the calving rate does not exceed one.
Like all other mammals the young are nourished by milk from their mother.
And it takes weeks for the young to become able to fly and catch food.
So how can you help? You can use bat houses to encourage them to come and live in your area.
Since they only come out at night, you will not even be aware that they have moved into your area unless you go looking for them.
By taking time to learn about these creatures and how they can assist in organic pest control, you can see huge paybacks very quickly.
In addition you can become part of a bat conservation effort.
You can help by providing them a house in a friendly habitat.
Now, bat houses are not like bird houses, because the needs of bats are totally different.
Don't try to use a bird house for them because they will not adapt to it.
They will usually remain six months in hibernation and migration and then stay active for another six months.
You don't need to provide any feed for them because they live on insects and fruits in your area.
A house is simple to set up.
It just needs to be installed on a pole or attached to a tree in a quiet place where it will not get disturbed during daytime hours.
So think about what you can do to help the farmers with an organic approach to pest control and at the same time provide assistance in bat conservation.
Your assistance will help them have a safe life in this world.
