How to Configure an SMTP Host

    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Administrative Tools." Click "Internet Information Services Manager" to open your IIS server console.

    • 2). Double-click the "SMTP Email" icon to open a configuration window. Select the delivery method. If this server is a routing server for another SMTP server, enter the destination. If this server hosts email message retrieval, such as an Exchange server, select "Store e-mail in pickup directory."

    • 3). Click the "Browse" button and select a hard drive directory to store the email messages. Email messages are stored in a directory before they are sent to a new server or retrieved by the user. After you select a directory, click "OK."

    • 4). Click the "Apply" button. If you want to ensure that the SMTP server is working, you can open the directory where you set message storage in step 3. Each message is saved as a file in the directory and deleted after it is sent to the next server location.
