Turn Old Photos Into Beautiful Oil Paintings

I received some phone calls from customers about converting their old photos into oil portraits. The customers would inquire about possibility and possible outcome. In most cases, we got positive feedback from customers. Firstly it is because of current modern technology of projecting, if we insist 100% handmade, or applying computer print on canvas as first layer, if customers allow merchant to do so, the resemblance will not be a problem, if the photos provided by the customers are complete and clear. It is not a simple process of covering printed canvas by oil paint. A true artistic work will necessitate a few layers of oil painting and add brush strokes to make an oil painting vivid and three dimensional. I recently got a phone call from a TV ad company that inquired me about possibility of just adding brush stroke to printed canvas and sell as final products of art work. I beg to differ. That is the varnish processing on giclee print. You can see transparent glue-like coverage on print, but meanwhile you can tell it is not an authentic painting.
Sometimes when photos provided by customers are not clear or complete, artists have to use their imagination with assistance of computer graphics. We edit a lot of old photos in PhotoShop and customers were happy with their outcomes that facilitate our artists to work on ready motif, so as to guarantee a satisfactory result. While sometimes, this is not the case, especially when colors need to be added to a black and white photo. Skin, pupil or eyebrow colors are difficult to depict. Using a HTML color code will help accurately pinpoint exact color of each particular section so that artists can work on the color conversion in a scientific way.
Revision definitely is a necessary procedure in polishing process. Usually for old photos, for example, in our recent work for a senior lady, who is grandpa of my customer, will need some critical family members to preview in order to put forward critique. In this case, my customer has never seen her grandpa hence she has to turn to her uncle. We tone down skin color one shade by one shade in order to match their real impression. Meanwhile, photos of close relatives are a perfect reference for skin and pupil colors. A sibling, or children's photo will serve as the best cross-checking.

This is a fascinating process and very often many families would turn into tears when they see final result of photo to real oil painting
