Types of Engines Available on a Chevrolet TrailBlazer
- The Chevy TrailBlazer was first introduced in 2002 as an upscale model of their Blazer. Through its production years from 2002 up until 2009, the Chevy TrailBlazer was offered with three different engine options depending on the year of TrailBlazer and its trim model.
- The engine that has been around throughout the entire production life of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer has been the 4.2 Liter V6. This was the base engine that came standard on most of the trim lines that Chevy had to offer on the TrailBlazer. It was capable of producing 275 horsepower at 6,000 RPM along with 275 ft.-lbs. of torque at 3,600 RPM.
- Available from 2003 through 2009, the V8 engine gave TrailBlazer owners a more powerful engine option under the hood. Chevy's upgraded 5.3-liter V8 produced 302 horsepower at 5,900 RPM and 295 ft.-lbs. of torque at 4,100 RPM.
- Starting with the 2006 production year to the end of its run in 2009, Chevy offered the Chevy TrailBlazer SS. This newer and bigger engine was used in everything, from Chevrolet's Corvette to the Cadillac CTS-V. This bigger V8 produced 395 horsepower at 5,400 RPM and 400 ft.-lbs. of torque at 4,400 RPM, making it the engine of choice for those looking for more power in the TrailBlazer.
