Types

• In a parallel hybrid, both gas and electricity power the car. With a series hybrid, the gas doesn't directly provide power to the engine--it only provides fuel to the generator, which charges the car's batteries.
  
  

Environment

• Hybrid vehicles are beneficial to the environment. The electric motor reduces the toxic emissions that are being released into the atmosphere.
  
  

Idling

• When you press the brake and come to a complete stop, the car engine shuts off automatically. It stays off until you press the accelerator again. This saves energy that is wasted when you are idling your car.
  
  

Fuel Economy

• Hybrids can get up to 30 miles more per gallon as compared to conventional cars.
  
  

Taxes

• Owners of hybrid vehicles can take advantage of special tax breaks from the government (see Resources).
