Seven Nutrient Rich/Age-Defying Foods

Hey, have you heard that 60 is the new 40? Well, although this may sound quite favorable to anyone 50 years & older, we all know that for the unprepared & unlucky, this will not become their reality. From the experiences we have grasped & the wisdom we have acquired, we generally expect results equivalent to our concerted efforts. I'm certain that most baby boomers want to do what they can to slow their internal clocks down. I most definitely do.

Alright then, besides drinking buckets of purified water, getting adequate amounts of sleep, working out at your local gym, using an exceptional moisturizing cream, receiving God's amazing grace & good genes, what else can be done? Well proper nutrition of course. Loading up on key nutrients, can go a long way when attempting to defy your real age. In conjunction with an active lifestyle, proven super-foods will provide a plethora of nourishment from the inside out. Below are seven of my favorite revitalizing treats to help remedy & renew. Yummy, yum, yum.

1. Acai Berries - Over the last two years, I've become a true acai fan. Whether I drink them mashed & blended in a smoothie or as a concentrated juice, they tend to increase my energy particularly because they are filled with antioxidants which naturally cleanse & detoxify. Very gracious & sweet when used to promote consistent weight loss. These exotic berries are exceptionally powerful. As a matter of fact, I believe I can feel them permeating through out my body with each tasty swallow. I consider them a precious, renewable fruit.

2. Flaxseeds - Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids, as a result, your heart will thank you with each palpitating beat. Such a wonderful lubricant for your joints, skin, hair & nails that you may begin to glow with giddy delight. These seeds also react as soluble fibers for improved digestion & bowel regularity. As an added bonus, blood sugar & inflammation are drastically reduced. With so much to offer, why wouldn't you consider adding a dose or two to your favorite savory or sweet recipe?

3. Mangoes - Way back in the day, one of my biggest concerns was whether my daughter (a very picky eater) was absorbing all the vitamins & minerals her small frame required. Only recently have I become more aware of their significance in improving my own health. Loaded with carotenoids & vitamin A, this delicious winner ranks high in our quest for overall eye health. By the way, most orange colored produce such as apricots, papayas, yams, carrots & pumpkins also possess magnificent cancer fighting properties. With a beautiful array of Fall-like hues, I've decided to revise my list of most bountiful, life-enhancing edibles.

4. Soy - A robust helping of all natural/non-animal protein is ideal for our infrastructure by helping build muscle, by strengthening bones & warding off osteoporosis. No longer only embraced by vegans & dedicated vegetarians, it has been determined that it also aids in alleviating menopausal distress by reducing or eliminating those pesky hot flashes. Ongoing studies have further revealed that Alzheimer's Disease can possibly be warded-off by eating more of these admirable beans. For those of you who may be allergic to this substance or it's numerous by-products, challenge yourself to find other legumes that are high in protein & are calcium rich.

5. Oats - Glossy hair, skin & nails are obvious traits that can have you looking younger than your driver's license states. But don't we want to equally elevate our appearance along with our overall well-being? They do work hand-in-hand when it comes to feeling better about ourselves. Wrinkles, fine lines & dry/brittle hair may be an indicator that oatmeal should to be infused into a once compromised or deficient diet. With such a fibrous profile, this dense grain's broad features are difficult to overlook or dismiss. Lightly sweetened oatmeal bars or cooked & served-up in a bowl with fruit & nuts, is actually more satisfying than a soggy bowl of cold cereal.

6. Walnuts - Recently I discovered that the oil in one walnut segment is strong enough to erase a scratch mark on wooden furniture, when rubbed directly on the blemish. Learning this got me thinking that if the pure unsaturated oils are so terrific on wood, why wouldn't they help to improve the subtleness of my skin? Talking about a multi-faceted nut! Frankly, I wouldn't want to waste the precious oil on some beaten-up table or desk unless that particular walnut was on the verge of going bad.

Strongly endowed with magnesium, potassium & iron, they are packed with a wealth of very important trace minerals. These crunchy morsels can also distribute properties that help to decrease bad cholesterol (LDL) thereby reducing the risk for higher triglycerides, hypertension, heart disease or a sudden stroke.

7. Goji Berries - Another pure antioxidant & remarkable cancer precursor that should be eaten in moderate portions. Because it is so nutrient superior, you won€t need much to fill your body with healthy goodness. Similar in appearance to raisins, this dark berry packs a big bang for your buck. Its recent popularity has created consumer demand which means you can buy them by the pound, in concentrated juices, or in vitamin supplements. I'm happy to find them more readily available because I know I'm doing my body good by including them in my weekly meal plan.

Moreover, by swapping out refined sugar & useless carbohydrates with more wholesome ingredients, you're empowering yourself to re-create a more nourished you. Please bare in mind that getting psyched-up & mesmerized by the newest weight loss or anti-aging pill is not the way to go unless you thoroughly do your due diligence prior to purchase & consumption. Furthermore, sustaining youthfulness & vibrancy requires good nutrition, uplifting mental stimuli, a focused fitness regimen, ongoing rest & relaxation & the desire to continue to feel good from the inside out.
