How to Repair a Plastic Eyeglass Frame
- 1). Put the newspaper down on a table. Take the left eyeglass lens and gently rub the sandpaper against the edge of the broken bridge. Stop rubbing the sandpaper against the bridge when the coloring has been removed. Repeat this process with the broken bridge of the right eyeglass lens.
- 2). Dip a cotton swab into the nail polish. Apply the cotton swab to both areas of the bridge where the sandpaper was used.
- 3). Cut a horizontal piece out of the cardboard with the scissors. Place the piece of cardboard down on the newspaper. Place each half of the eyeglasses down on the cardboard so that they are positioned normally for wearing. Wrap a rubber band around each eyeglass lens to keep it in position against the cardboard.
- 4). Apply bonding glue to the break in the eyeglasses where the two sides of the bridge come together. Use a cotton swab to remove excess bonding glue. Let the bonding glue set for at least 24 hours.
- 5). Drill a tiny hole at each side of the break in the eyeglasses with the flat edged screwdriver. Thread a needle with sewing thread that is the same color as the eyeglass frame and thread the needle through the two holes. Go back and forth between the holes to wrap the thread around the break in the eyeglasses. Cut the thread off of the needle. Tape the end of the thread to the bridge of the eyeglass frame with cellophane tape.
- 6). Apply bonding glue to the thread and holes on both sides of the eyeglasses. Wipe off the excess bonding glue with a cotton swab. Let the bonding glue set for at least 15 minutes. Wrap the sewing thread around the bridge of the eyeglasses at least a dozen times. Cut the thread with the scissors. Apply bonding glue to the thread wrapped around the bridge. Wipe off the excess bonding glue with a cotton swab. Let the bonding glue set for at least 24 hours.
- 7). Wrap the sewing thread around the bridge of the eyeglasses at least a dozen times again. Cut the thread with the scissors. Apply bonding glue to the thread wrapped around the bridge. Wipe off the excess bonding glue with a cotton swab. Let the bonding glue set for at least 24 hours.
- 8). Remove the rubber bands and the cardboard from the eyeglass frame. Put the eyeglasses on and enjoy being able to see again now that you have fixed the plastic eyeglass frame.
