Mustang Island is located between Corpus Christi Ship Channel and the Gulf of Mexico. Named for the wild horses brought by the Spanish in the early 19th century, Mustang Island is much more tranquil and serene than its name suggests. The fragile ecosystem of this island has striking sand dunes, many species of birds and plenty of beach for two and four legged friends alike. Fishing and nearby golf, a heated pool, spacious suites and best of all, pets are welcome. The Plantation Suites requests a one time $50.00 fee for your pet's stay as well as a $100.00 refundable deposit. Your pet is welcome to join in the fun on the beach and grounds as long as it is leashed.

This retro hotel will take guests and there pets back several decades. The best word to describe this hotel on Mustang Island is funky! It is located on the northern tip of Mustang Island. Each one of the 17 cottages has been named and individually decorated. Visitors can choose from cottages called "Bridal Sweet", "Charlie Horse", or "Crazy Horse". All units are one to three bedrooms and rates as of 2010 began at $59.00 nightly during winter months, and climbed up to $229.00 nightly in peak summer months.
The Laughing Horse Lodge will gladly accept more than one dog. Even visitors with three dogs are welcomed. The lodge has a very liberal dog policy. A pet fee of $25.00 for one dog, $30.00 for two dogs, and $50.00 for three or more dogs is requested upon checking in. This fee is non-refundable. The lodge provides water bowls, I.D. tags, treats and even waste bags for their canine guests.

Mustang Island State Park is operated by th Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and offers visitors lodging in the form of R.V. camping or primitive camping. Pets are welcome but must be maintained on a 6 foot leash while on the grounds. There is no pet fee or deposit required. Most camping sites have electric and water connections and are seperated by sand dunes for added privacy. Hiking, kayaking, and of course fishing and swimming can all be enjoyed with pets according to the park rules.
