Brad Pitt - Worst Movies to Grace Our Satellite TVs
Brad Pitt. Everyone across the globe knows who he is. He is one of the recognizable names in Hollywood today and maybe even ever. However, Pitt is often looked at as simply another pretty movie star. However, he is much more than that. He has turned in several Oscar worthy performances and is widely considered, along with Johnny Depp, to be one of the most versatile actors in Hollywood today. He has transcended from the typical handsome, chiseled movie star to the likes of great acting legends like Al Pacino and Marlon Brando. In fact, one day we may be talking about Brad Pitt as one of the top 5 actors in history. But like any other actor, Pitt has been involved in some major duds. Pitt's major duds have occurred relatively recently. They are the horrible romantic drama "The Mexican" and the action packed but box office bust "Mr. and Mrs. Smith".
In Gore Verbinski's "The Mexican", Pitt plays Jerry Walbach, a man who is ordered by his mob boss to cross the border into Mexico in order to retrieve a priceless antique pistol called "The Mexican". Julia Roberts plays Pitt's girlfriend, who is against Pitt's involvement in the mob. She gives Pitt an ultimatum. He can either quit the mob or she will leave him. Pitt heads to retrieve the gun much to his girlfriend's dismay and then this movie takes a major turn for the worse. The premise seemed good enough but the screenplay simply did not execute the ideas in a well thought out manner. The entire screenplay would need to be re-written and rethought in order for this movie to even be watch-able. Add into that the sub-par performance by the majority of actors involved, including Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt, and you have yourself a dud.
With the terrific duo, of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, studios believed "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" would be an instant hit no matter how horrible the script was; boy were they wrong. In a way it proves that some people do in fact go to the movies and look for proper plot placement and character development. But even if you don't, you probably still thought that this movie was nothing more than ordinary. The climax is not nearly what it could have been and the ending is obvious and predictable. This movie was nothing more than a straight to video box office bust.
With today's unpredictable movie going audience, being in a dud is simply part of being a movie star. What separates Pitt from other actors is that he has been able to recover from disastrous movie releases and bounce back with incredible performances like he did recently with his portrayal of Lt. Aldo Raine in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds". Brad Pitt has shown that he can deliver in a wide variety of roles and will most likely continue to do so.
