Columbia, South Carolina is not known as a hot spot in the world of golf, yet there are several full-sized golf courses in the region that attract players from throughout the U.S. and other parts of the world. There are no less than nine golf courses all within Columbia's city limits. - The Oak Hills Golf Club is rated as the top public golf course in Columbia, South Carolina by readers of the GolfLink.com web site. It features an 18-hole course spread out over 6,894 yards when playing from the back tees. The course, which is a par 72, was designed by Steve Melnyk and Davis Love III, and opened for play in 1991. The course is considered to be a tough round of golf, especially during summer months when the greens become dry and fast for putting. The course sits among thousands of oak, pine and dogwood trees, and has a 5,000-square-foot clubhouse with formal dining and a catering staff for special occasions.

The LinRick Golf Course, which opened in 1972, stretches 6,919 yards from the back tees and features several water hazards, dog-legged fairways and relatively smaller greens than most 18-hole courses. Holes 14 through 18 are considered to be five of the most challenging holes of any Columbia golf course, according to the GolfLink.com web site.

Each competitor was paired with one of the PGA golfers competing in the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. The course has18 holes on a 6,656-yard par 72 course wrought with 45 sand traps and five water hazards. Even though this is a private course, it is open to the public four days each month.
