How to Eliminate Pop Up Ads

    Mozilla Firefox

    • 1). Click "Tools" and then select "Options." Navigate to the "Content" tab.

    • 2). Click the check box labeled "Block Pop-Up Windows." Click "OK" to save the changes.

    • 3). Return to the "Content" tab if you want to allow certain pop up windows to get through. Click the "Exceptions" button to the right of the "Block Pop-Up Windows" check box.

    • 4). Type in the full web address for any website that uses pop up windows that you want to view. Click "Allow" and then click "OK."

    Internet Explorer

    • 1). Click the "Tools" option and select "Internet Options." Navigate to the "Privacy" tab.

    • 2). Locate the "Pop Up Blocker" heading. Click the check box labeled "Turn On Pop Up Blocker."

    • 3). Click "Apply" and then click "OK" to save the change.

    • 4). Return to the "Privacy" tab if you want to allow some websites to create pop up windows. Click the "Settings" button to the right of the "Turn On Pop Up Blocker" box.

    • 5). Type in the full web address for any website that you want to allow to create pop ups. Click "Add" and then click "Close."

    • 1). Follow one of the Resource links below this article to a program that searches your computer for adware, such as "Spybot Search and Destroy" or "Lavasoft AdAware." Download and install the program.

    • 2). Open the anti-adware utility. Click the program's update feature to search for the latest adware detection information.

    • 3). Wait for the updates to finish installing. Click the program's "Immunize" button or whichever similar feature it uses. Select "Immunize Now" to prevent adware from installing itself to your computer while you browse web pages.

    • 4). Click "Check For Problems" to search for any adware installed on your system that is creating pop-up ads.

    • 5). Choose "Remove Selected Problems" when the scan finishes running to delete the adware from your hard drive.
