How to Protect My Address Book From a Virus
- 1). Install an antivirus program on your computer. Scan your computer at least 2 times per week or more if you perform tasks that put your computer at more risk for getting a virus. Scanning your computer regularly will catch viruses before they can get into your address book.
- 2). Avoid downloading email attachments from someone you don't know, and before you do open those, use an antivirus program to scan them first. Avoid opening file attachments with the extensions .dll, exe, .com, .vbs, .bin, .dot, bat, .reg, .js, .xlm and .pif.
- 3). Log into your email account and open your address book immediately after being infected by a virus. Click on "New Contact." You would do this just as if you were adding a new contact to your address book.
- 4). Type the letter "A" into the space where you would have typed your contact's first name. If your address book already has a contact with the first name starting with "A" type "1A." Type in "AAAAAAA@AAA.AAA" in the space where you would have typed the contact's email address, then save it as you would normally do. This will prevent the virus from sending itself to all of your contacts.
