The mayonnaise method is one of the most popular methods for curing head lice, which can be done from the comfort of your home.
Since mayonnaise has a thick texture with a lot of oil and fat, it is ideal in smothering head lice till they can no longer breathe.
Proper precautions should be taken while using this method.
Wear disposable surgical gloves and a disposable shower cap after tying you hair in a bun.
Put two cups of mayonnaise in a disposable container.
If you have thicker hair, you will need more mayonnaise.
Prepare a saran wrap to wrap around your head.
Keep a lice comb at hand.
Spread a newspaper on an even surface like a table.
Switch off all fans and shut your windows to prevent any breeze at all from entering the room.
Follow these simple methods and you can't go wrong.
Start by applying a thick layer of mayonnaise all over the head.
Thick enough to suffocate the lice.
Next, cover your head with the saran wrap tightly enough so that no air gets in.
Remember, you need to suffocate the lice.
Leave the mayonnaise soaked hair for around two hours or more to be sure there aren't any survivors.
Comb out lice and nits using the lice comb onto the newspaper, tapping the comb often to remove the dead lice and nits between every run.
Throw out the newspaper and put in a fresh one.
The next step is to rinse your hair thoroughly and then shampoo it using preferably an anti-lice shampoo.
Make sure to get rid of all the mayonnaise.
Comb out your hair for a second time onto the fresh newspaper to remove lice and nits.
Pull out the stubborn ones using gloves.
Make sure none are left behind; else it defeats the whole purpose of this exercise.
Once again shampoo and rinse your hair thoroughly and comb it with the lice comb until you are fully satisfied.
Lastly, get rid of everything you have used.
From the gloves to the lice comb, saran wrap and disposable container and the newspaper of course.
