Compare the Garmin GPS - 200 & 255
- Compact and lightweight, the Nuvi 200 and 255 GPS systems have identical dimensions, each measuring 0.8 inches deep and weighing 5.2 ounces. The Nuvi 200 measures 3.8 inches wide, compared to the 255's 3.9 inches, and 2.8 inches tall, to the 255's 2.9 inches. Both units feature a 2.5-inch thin-film transistor quarter video graphics array LCD color touch screen with white backlight that displays at 320 by 240 pixels of resolution.
- One of the more notable differences between these systems is their map content and voice command capabilities. The 200 comes with preloaded maps of the United States and Puerto Rico while the Nuvi 255 features maps of North America, including Canada and Mexico. While both devices provide basic navigational voice commands, such as "Turn left in 500 feet," only the 255 gives advanced voice instructions, such as "Turn left on Old River School Road in 500 feet."
- If updated travel information matters to you, the Nuvi 255 might be the better choice. Compatible with Garmin's FM Traffic premium service, the 255 can provide real-time travel data, such as weather, road construction and traffic delays. Both units are equipped with a built-in high-sensitivity receiver, which enables them to maintain satellite signal reception in hard-to-reach locations, such as underground or indoors. The 255 also supports up to 1,000 waypoints, or favorites, while the Nuvi 200 only stores 500.
- When fully charged, a standard lithium-ion battery provides the Nuvi 200 with up to five hours of power and the Nuvi 255 with up to four hours. Both units feature internal solid-state memory and come with a built-in Secure Digital card slot for expanded memory. For adding maps and synchronizing data, both devices connect to a personal computer through a USB cable and are compatible with Windows XP or newer and Mac OS X 10.4 or later operating systems.
