How to Change the Oil on a Featherlite Weed Eater

    • 1). Put on safety goggles to prevent eye injury.

    • 2). Combine 3.2 ounces of two-stroke engine oil with one gallon of unleaded gasoline in an approved container. Use synthetic two-stroke oil specially designed for air-cooled two-stroke engines. These manufactured oils are composed of the base oil, which provides the essential lubrication for moving engine parts, and additives that typically lower the base oil ignition temperature as well as remove the oil residue from engine components after combustion.

    • 3). Close the container tightly and mix the fuel/oil mixture thoroughly.

    • 4). Place the weed eater on a level surface. Position it so the black fuel cap is facing up and slowly remove the cap.

    • 5). Fill the fuel tank with the fuel/oil mixture. The fuel/oil level can be plainly seen through the walls of the tank. Do not overfill the tank, and clean up any spills immediately.

    • 6). Prime the weed eater by depressing the primer bulb slowly six times. Slide the choke to full. Engage the throttle and quickly pull the starter rope six times. Slide the choke to half.

    • 7). Pull the starter rope quickly until the engine starts running. Allow it to run briefly then slide the choke to off. Operate the weed eater engine for a few moments to allow the new fuel/oil mixture to circulate throughout the engine.

    • 8). Terminate engine operation by depressing the red stop switch on the weed eater shaft.
