How to Soundproof Your Room for Drums

    • 1). Using silicone caulking, caulk any cracks in the walls that might cause noise or air to escape out of the designated drum room. Then apply a thick layer of caulk to all stud surfaces.

    • 2). Apply sheetrock to the walls and hold it in place with screws. Once that layer is hung, hang another layer of sheetrock, following the same directions as the first time around.

    • 3). Use weather stripping or gasketing around the door to the room. As a test, shine a flashlight around one side of the door and make sure you cannot see the light on the other side of the door.

    • 4). Cover the door with a panel of sheetrock, or Medite, plywood or particle board, using adhesive or screws. This thickens the door and helps to keep the sound from escaping.

    • 5). Replace your current windows with a vinyl-framed, double- or triple-paned glass window. Or, you can lay sheetrock across the windows if you don't mind covering them up.

    • 6). Add acoustical drapes to your window to block sounds. These are the types of drapes that hotels use on their windows.

    • 7). Cover the floor with a large rug or carpeting, if it does not already have carpeting. Carpeting is the best soundproofing material for the floor.

    • 8). Keep the drums in the middle of the room to create less vibrations and sounds. Add furniture to the room to absorb some of the noise before sound even hits the walls.
