Norwegian Pearl Christening

Members of the Miami Symphony Orchestra and Miami-based chamber choir Seraphic Fire kicked off the Norwegian Pearl christening festivities with holiday music.

Originally the Norwegian Pearl christening ceremony was to take place on the Miami pier, but lingering December showers drove the late afternoon party inside to the Stardust Theater. Champagne flowed as the 2400 party guests waited for the festivities to begin, and Robert Palmer's music video "Simply Irresistible", the new ship's tag line, played on the big screen. Four female dancers from the onboard Jean Ann Ryan entertainment troupe swayed to the music and helped get the party going.

Norwegian Pearl cruise director Matthew Baker was the emcee, and he introduced the Miami-based chamber choir Seraphic Fire and the Miami Symphony Orchestra, who performed a good selection of holiday songs. A United States Coast Guard color guard brought in the colors, and the Seraphic Fire led the audience in a rousing version of the "Star-Sprangled Banner".
