Burnham Park - Baguio City's Premier Visitor Attraction
Located at the heart of the city, Burnham Park hosts millions of visitors every year. Foreign and local tourists come to the park because it is a showcase of the City of Baguio; you have not seen Baguio City--if you have not been to Burnham Park. The park covers 344,583 square meters (around 85 acres) of land, preserved as an open and green space. It is publicly accessible and is located "a stone's throw" away from the city's downtown area.
Its central and predominant feature is the Burnham Lake, where boat rowing is the main activity. This man-made water feature has boat docks and jetties on four corners of its rectangular-shaped reservoir. Alluringly surrounded by gardens and lawns, park benches are provided for visitors to sit as they enjoy the lake panorama.
Other amenities in the park include:
* The Bicycle Freeway where adults and teenagers rent bikes to enjoy the circuit on the four sides of Burnham Lake. Addressing the need of younger kids, a separate tots biking enclave is provided as well.
* The Skating Rink, a circular covered skating area originally for skaters only, has now been provided for bump car amenities at its inner ring.
* The Children's Playground invites kids and children to commune with nature and celebrate the sun. Various play equipment are interspersed amongst beautiful landscape elements. Trees and green grass keep the children connected with the environment while playing around.
* The Picnic Grove is a family- and friends-oriented space for get-together picnics. Situated in a group of pine trees, it is provided with tables and benches and makes for great outdoor breakfast or lunch in the park.
* The Athletic Bowl- intended for city sports development, has an oval track, tennis courts and an Olympic-size swimming pool.
* Garden and open green spaces include the Rose Garden, Melvin Jones Football and Parade Grounds, the Igorot Garden, the Sunshine Park, the Japanese Peace Tower and Pine Trees of the World area.
* The Orchidarium is host to flower and garden shows. It has a wide array of flowering plants, ornamental and houseplants; and some intriguing, unique plants--all featured in landscaping settings within an enclosed location. This setting is usually highlighted in one grand festival of the city: the Panagbenga- The Baguio Flower Festival which is the city's annual celebration and grand "come-to-our-city" offering.
Burnham Park has something for all ages, it is for both- the young and the old. It is an oasis and a place for relaxation and recreation.
