Homemade Decorative Curtain Rod Finials

    Change Original Finials

    • Changing the original finial may be the easiest way to get creative with your window look. If you already like the shape, get some enamel paint and a brush and change the color. Give metallic gold stripes around the base, or paint it white and add blue polka dots. Make the look to go with your room, whether whimsical or stately.

    Shells

    • Many bathrooms are designed around a nautical theme, and shells make perfect curtain rod finials for this design. Find two similar shells about the size of a ping pong ball. Use a fast-acting glue (such as Super Glue or Krazy Glue) to attach a screw to the back of each shell, and screw it into the curtain rod base.

    Super Balls

    • Super balls come in a huge variety of colors and designs, from swirls to glitter. Super ball finials make a great look for a kid's room. Use a sharp knife to make a slit in the super ball. Gently work the head of a screw into the innards of the ball. Use a drop of fast-acting glue to hold the screw in place. When the glue is dry, screw the ball onto the rod.

    Pine Cones

    • In any decor that has a woodsy motif, pine cones make an attractive finial for windows. Use fast-acting glue to attach screws to the pine cones, then gently screw them onto the curtain rod bases.

    Ornaments

    • For a holiday look or something sleek for a modern room, plastic shiny ornament balls can be a good look for a finial. Gently saw or cut off the part of the ornament where the hook would go, leaving a small hole. Carefully crack the ornament just a little bit along the seam. Insert a screw into the hole, using fast-acting glue to secure the screw head against the inside of the hole. When the glue is dried, carefully screw the ornament into the curtain rod.
