Advantages of Liquid Termite Bait

    • Liquid termiticides operate by creating a barrier and killing termites.house image by Earl Robbins from Fotolia.com

Liquid termiticides can be placed around your home's wood structure or injected into the soil surrounding your home. Liquid termiticides offer some advantages over bait stations. Bait stations are wood structures that have to be installed. If termites are detected, bait is then placed within the stations for the termites to feed on. Bait stations may take up to a year to eliminate a termite colony. Unlike bait stations, liquid termiticides provide instant protection for your home.

    Liquid Repellents

    • Liquid repellent termiticides contain pyrethroid insecticides. Pyrethroids are a man-made chemical that are used to poison insects, but have a low toxicity to mammals. According to the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, pyrethroids give off an odor that repels termites. Termites that come into contact with pyrethroid termiticides will die because of cellular damage.

    Liquid Non-Repellents

    • Non-repellent liquid termiticides are not detectable by termites. Unsuspecting termites forage into the non-repellent termiticide. The termites trap the chemical in their body and pass the liquid bait onto other termites within their nest. Non-repellent termiticides offer a way to suppress termite activity around the structure of your home.

    Other Advantages

    • Liquid repellents are usually cost-effective and will last for years after treatment, as indicated by Virginia Tech. Bait stations can be more expensive, as the stations need monitoring, as well as a constant supply of bait until all termites are finally eliminated. Unlike bait stations, termiticides offer a residual insecticide around your home that prevents further infestations. With bait stations, termites may not always eat the bait that is supplied.
