How to Winterize My Namco Pool

    Namco Above-Ground Pool

    • 1). Vacuum the pool. Adjust the pH range to 7.2 to 7.6 and super shock it. Add the liquid winterizer and winter tabs, following the dosage charts. After pouring the winterizer into the pool, tie the winter tab dispensers into place. Run the filter for four to eight hours.

    • 2). Backwash the filter and apply liquid pump protector through the skimmer. This will keep the pump from rusting. Remove the flapper and basket from the skimmer and then seal the skimmer with a LID'L Seal or Proline Skimmer Plate. Install a Proline Skimmer Saver inside the skimmer to protect against possible ice damage.

    • 3). Remove the return fitting "eyeball" and seal it with a Proline winter plug.

    • 4). Disconnect the filter hoses. Drain and clean them along with the filter pump. Store them indoors. Remove the pool ladder, stairs, mats and any other item in the pool.

Use an air compressor, shop or canister type vacuum to inflate the equalizer pillows. Place one or more of the appropriate size ice equalizers in the middle of the pool and then tie it in place to the side to prevent shifting. Make sure you have an adequate number of ice equalizers in the pool. They come in several sizes 2-by-4 inches, 5-by-5 inches and 5-by-15 inches.

    • 6). Use cover clips, a locking winch or cables (or all three) to fasten the pool cover. Before the first hint of freezing weather, pump any water off the cover and remove leaves, twigs and any other debris from the cover.

Remove the pool's ladders and handrails.stairs of the swimming pool image by JoLin from Fotolia.com

Remove the handrails, fill-spouts and ladders. Lower the underwater lights and move them into the deep end of the pool, or remove them altogether to prevent ice damage. Remove the basket and flapper from the skimmer. Seal the skimmer openings with a LID'L Seal or Proline Skimmer Plate. Install a Proline Skimmer Saver inside the skimmer to protect against possible ice damage.

    • 4). Unscrew the directional flow "eyeballs" from the return fittings. With a canister type or shop vacuum, blow out all the lines, especially at filter connections. Seal the wall lines with a Proline Winterizing Plug and then seal the skimmer line with a Proline Skimmer Saver, which will protect the skimmer from cracking.

    • 5). Remove the heater drain plug and blow out the lines. Add the Pipeline Antifreeze to underground lines, including the suction and return lines. Use a shop or canister type vacuum to inflate the equalizer pillows which come in several sizes: 2-by-4 inches, 5-by-5 inches and 5-by-15 inches. Place the appropriate size ice equalizer in the middle of the pool; tie it in place to the side to prevent shifting. Add an adequate number of ice equalizers in the pool. Cover the pool and secure it. You can use the water bag system and anchor them around the pool's perimeter.
