How to Remove Melted Butter Stains

    • 1). Take the garment off as soon as possible. Remove excess butter by scraping the fabric with a butter knife. Press lightly on the fabric with the smooth side of a butter knife and scrape the excess butter off the stained area.

    • 2). Spread out the stained garment on a flat surface with a towel underneath. Place the towel in between layers so that it is directly under the fabric and the stain. Turn up the bottom hem of the stained garment for a spot to test the cleaning solution before treating the stain.

    • 3). Mix one cup of non-bleach laundry detergent with one tbsp. of Borax in a bowl. Stir the ingredients until much of the Borax has dissolved.

    • 4). Dip a soft-bristle toothbrush into the detergent mix and wipe some onto the hem at the base of the garment to make sure the treatment won't damage the fabric. After confirming the garment safe to treat, pre-treat the stain with regular laundry detergent. Work the detergent into the melted butter stain. Rinse garment thoroughly.

    • 5). Rub the detergent and Borax mixture directly into and around the melted butter stain. Gently rubbing will not damage the fabric. The solution will gently remove the greasy compounds from the garment. Treat and repeat up to three times with the detergent and Borax mixture.
