Effects of a Vision Problem

Having problems reading clearly? Running into occasional awkward and troublesome situations due to poor eyesight? One must always know the importance of having good eyesight.
On a side note, also being knowledgeable on the different kinds of eye-related problems can go a long way in preventing and dealing with it correctly.
The Three Most Common types of Vision problems Myopia or more commonly known as nearsightedness, is an eye condition wherein near objects are seen clearly, but subjects which are farther away can be barely seen or appear blurred.
This type of condition occurs when the cornea ( acts as the eye's front cover) has too much curvature.
This leads to a situation wherein light entering the eye isn't focused correctly and distant objects will look blurry.
In the U.
S alone, Nearsightedness affects nearly 30 percent of the population.
The two factors considered to be the primary causes of the development of nearsightedness are said to be Heredity and Visual Stress.
Hyperopia, or Farsightedness is a vision problem in which distant objects can be seen clearly, but close subjects could not be focused on correctly.
This phenomenon occurs when the cornea has very little curvature, resulting to incorrect focus of incoming light.
Astigmatism is a vision condition usually caused either by an irregularly shaped cornea, or at by the curvature of the lens inside the eye.
An irregularly shaped cornea prevents proper focusing of the light on the retina (light-sensitive surface on the eye), resulting to blurring of vision at any distance.
Aside from the three mentioned above, Aging is also one of the most common causes of vision degradation.
As we age, the clear lens located behind the Iris (colored part of the eye that controls the amount of light entering it) becomes increasingly rigid, affecting its ability to change its shape and focus on objects near and far (alternately) in a correct manner.
Effects of Vision Problems on Daily Life Almost all tasks and functions can be negatively affected by poor vision.
Be it at work, school or at home, its effects can be really devastating if not addressed properly and on time.
That being said, regular eye checkups are recommended especially if you are already experiencing changes with the way you see things.
"Why bother?" one might ask.
Well for starters a proper assessment of your visual condition could give you the information you need regarding your eyesight, prevent any further damage if problems and symptoms start appearing, and get great advise on the correct eyewear that you should be using.
Eyeglasses to the Rescue Eyeglasses are made of two prescription lenses connected to a frame (plastic or wire).
The lenses that one will use should coordinate with the prescription that was given to them to address the vision problem that they are concerned with.
Your eye doctor can easily identify the vision problem that you are experiencing and will advise you of the correct lens that you should be using.
As a quick explanation, Concave lenses are often used to address the problem of Myopia, Convex lens for Hyperopia, and cylindrical-shaped lenses are used to treat Astigmatism.
The eyeglasses' main purpose is to correct refractive errors, which occurs when the eye is too long or too short from the back to the front.
To wrap it all up, if ever you are experiencing any difficulty regarding your vision, act on it immediately.
Remember, well-maintained eyesight prevents any accidents and problems in your everyday living, and more importantly, allows you to enjoy life to the fullest.
